Christmas at Junibacken

Enjoy a fairy-tale Christmas at Junibacken! Get into the Christmas spirit with crafts and Christmas baking. Buy Christmas presents for book lovers young and old, in the bookshop and ride the Story Train through a snowy Lönneberga.

Embark on a musical journey with the multimedia reading aloud project Look book!  The book of the season is The Tomten, with music composed by Junibacken’s musicians, read and acted out by Junibacken’s actors. Written by Astrid Lindgren and illustrated by Kitty Crowther, The Tomten is a beautiful picture book depicting a magical winter’s night. Premieres 27/11.

During the Christmas holidays (26/12–6/1) you have the chance to see Tommy and Annika’s first magnificent encounter with Pippi Longstocking in the play Pippi Moves In. Three performances per day.

Sing for Christmas in Astrid’s best band! Outside Pippi’s House, our own ensemble will be inviting visitors of all ages to join them in playing and singing tunes from Astrid Lindgren’s treasury of songs. Together you create Astrid’s best band. And there’s a rumour that the concert finale will include fireworks round the tree! Premieres 27/11.

Who builds it up, who knocks it down? On 19 December Junibacken will be opening a new exhibition space inspired by Stina Wirsén’s popular picture books. Children and adults will be able to play together with giant building blocks in this great new space.

Our restaurant will be serving Christmas porridge every Sunday in Advent. The tables will be packed with Lucia saffron buns, gingerbread and gorgeously sticky saffron cake.

Our gift cards will soon be available – a perfect present for young and old. They will be on sale in the house but can also be bought online at

Junibacken is open every day of the Christmas period, except for 24 & 25/12.

We look forward to seeing you at Junibacken during the holiday season. Merry Christmas!
